I went to steam page and watched the video. I’m sorry if you don’t like hearing the criticism, but the gameplay, animal behavior, the visuals, everything but roasting your meat on a stick looks like a blatant copy. Come on man, you know what you did here.

It just seems kinda lame, weak and tasteless to me. TLD is a game that is still releasing content, it’s not like it’s an homage to game from the past, it’s a blatant knockoff, like tracing artwork and saying “I made this”.

I spend a lot of money on steam, almost entirely on indie projects, I’m typically happy to support anyone making something new and interesting. If people support this project and buy it, good for them, but I don’t fuck with it.

Even its naming conventions, “the short snow” is basically a clone of “The Long Dark”

I don’t know if the devs at Hinterland should be flattered or appalled. I wonder how their lawyers will feel about it.

See my comment above. 450 bushmaster and 350 legend are both cartridges developed the for AR platform that are lower range, lower velocity, larger bore projectiles meant to limit effective range and still have deer stopping energy.

.223 / 5.56 is illegal to deer hunt with in Michigan because it isn’t a reliable caliber for a kill, and is more likely to wound. Your .308 or .30-06 flies way, way farther in the event of a miss, creating a concern of striking unintended targets far past your line of sight. Which is why it’s illegal to hunt with below the lower peninsula rifle line.

It was never illegal to hunt with an AR. Hunting restrictions are based on caliber (5.56x45mm being too small kill a deer reliably) and magazine capacity.

Modern Michigan compliant hunting rifles based on the AR platform have low capacity magazines and utilize straight walled case and larger caliber, higher weight and lower velocity projectiles like .350 legend and .450 bushmaster, resulting in a round that effectively knocks down a deer while having a much shorter effective range (less likely to shoot far beyond its intended target in the event of a miss)

So yeah, a modern AR using a purpose specific medium game cartridge is in fact safer than a bolt action rifle with a faster longer distance round.

The only crutch that props up our massive jump from 1 billion pre industrialized society to our current 8 billion human beings on this planet, has been cheap and plentiful fossil fuel. Notably, it is the only thing that has allowed us to practice agriculture on a scale that supports our population growth. When it’s gone, there is nothing to replace it, short of a miracle fusion revolution.

The average carbon cost to produce an electric vehicle is about 6 tons on average, not including the battery, about the same as an ICE vehicle. Where does the energy for auto manufacturing come from? Primarily coal and natural gas, with a sliver of insubstantial wind and nuclear power. About 7 barrels of oil go into each and every tire on the road (between expended energy and actual petroleum products in the tire). Charging the battery? Coal, natural gas, and the same trickle of alternative sources mentioned above.

Speaking of those alternative energy sources, what do we use to make them? Building a nuclear power plant is likely the most carbon intensive process ever devised, from the machinery that moves the earth, to the foundry that makes the steel. As much as I’ve always wanted to believe in a cozy eco future, every time I squint a little I can see that it’s all just a coat of green paint over the same old oil field. The people trying to sell you on oil, and the people trying to sell you on alternatives to it, are doing the same thing. Selling you something. That’s all that matters to them.

There is no feasible alternative that changes the outcome. There is no replacement for what has allowed us to create wonders and horrors beyond our ancestors wildest dreams, and sustain a population far beyond anything we could have achieved without fossil fuels. When oil finally becomes unproductive, so will the mechanisms that hold our current civilization together, and we will wind up back in 1810 if we’re lucky, or 400ad if we aren’t.

Call me a doomer and downvote me or whatever. It doesn’t matter.

This means we need to keep being the best community we can be. Welcoming, helpful, and distro agnostic. I might occasionally Stan for the distros I love, or talk a little smack about ones that left a bad taste in my mouth, but when we’re helping new users, we need to meet them where they’re at, and give them the little boost they need to stick with it.

Discrete AMD GPUs in laptops are a very niche market, and there aren’t too many to be found. The RX6550m listed here is not the bottom of AMD’s barrel, but it’s no powerhouse. I’m sure it would run anything that isn’t too demanding, TF2 included.
