Is it excessive worship that was the issue? I thought the biblical God was fine with all manner of excess of worship as long as it wasn’t of any other god.

Whether or not Linux becomes a mainstream option and loses much of its appeal in the process creating a schism between ‘sanitised linux’ and ‘free rebel’ linux with the latter being sidelined because of various attestation and verification schemes stopping you from actually doing anything useful with your free-rebel computer; doesn’t sound like it would actually make a huge difference.

If all the recent rise in popularity and usability and adoption of linux stopped dead in its tracks today or even went backwards, and also the dystopian future you fear about mandatory face scans becomes reality, those using linux will get sidelined and put in to a ‘digital exile’; if insetad it does continue to rise and erode some of the share of desktops that windows enjoys and you end up with the ‘sanitised linux’ you’re afraid of causing a divide amongst the linux community, then you just get the same outcome for those that refuse to use the sanitised versions and insist on their ‘free rebel’ versions.

Either outcome, doesn’t sound like it’s any worse the other really, but at least in the interim, greater mainstream embrace of linux would be better and even in long term where it might get sanitised, it could still be a better outcome depending upon just how badly compromised the ‘sanitised linux’ actually turns out to be.

In the end, this sanitised linux could be worse than windows and ultimately the situation wouldn’t really have changed much since at that point ‘free-rebel’ linux basically just becomes what was always ‘linux’ and ‘sanitised linux’ is just ‘something else, not really linux in most people’s estimation.’ The two scenarios look kinda the same to me.

Ok so what I’m about to say does come with the caveat that I do the pricking a hole in the bottom before cooking and also pouring cold water on immediately after boiling thing so maybe that’s why it works for me but honestly I think this will work even if you don’t. Your problem is that you want to remove the membrane between the shell and the egg, WITH the shell, otherwise it becomes very hard to peel in one go and it takes little chunks of cooked egg white with it at variable depths.

To do that, I smack the top and bottom of the boiled egg on a hard surface to precrack the shell at those two places, then I roll the whole egg very gently on it’s side on that hard surface to create little cracks allover, it’s important not to press too hard especially if it’s softer boiled because it’ll just bisect equatorially with the shell still stuck to both halves in broken fragments. Then, the crucial bit, once you’ve precracked the egg all over, you HAVE to start peeling at the bottom of the egg, that’s the fatter end. There should be an air pocket in there that the precracked shell has sorta of collapsed in to, but hasn’t broken off in shards because it’s all held together by this membrane. If you pinch that loosened cracked eggshell at the bottom between your thumb and index finger to gather and collect it, you can kind of pull it up and off to the side a bit which will cleanly make a tear in the membrane allowing you to just kinda push the rest of the shell off in one piece. Because you can just sorta ease it off, sometimes it likes to come off in a nice big chunk like a jacket, sometimes you need to do a continuous spiral but as long you did that pinch technique you’ll be pulling the membrane off at the same time as the shell attached to it and in so doing you don’t have to pull off little bits of shell by themselves it’s one continuous piece and it can’t take chunks of the actual cooked egg with it like happened in your picture.

How recent is this history? Because I remember many years back now something like an AMA or some other post by the CEO of Brave, promoting it ahead of it being released I think and getting a pretty frosty reception on Reddit once people asked a bit more about how it was supposed to work. As time went on the reception seemed only to get worse as rumours spread of crypto scams and dodginess and even just on a basic level, questions of “why would we use this when we could just use Firefox with an ad blocker?”

I get the impression though that Reddit has been changing.

They should replace him with a painted corrupt shit stain instead.

Yeh I’ve alwahs appreciated how these loyalty cards and memberships etcetera don’t insist of verifying or anything. Most just want an email so I just use a generator or make one up on the spot. It’s good too because they often have cheap deals for signing up today.

The honeypot idea probably does rely at least in part on you not knowing that’s what it is so, if you for some reason thought that was happening then… Nothing is stopping you. I guess you could operate on the assumption at all times but that’s going to be difficult especially when they’re trying to extract the information from you in a way that doesn’t seem like they’re trying to do that so you’d have to maintain your facade and chicken feed story in response to even the most banal things that don’t seem like they’re probing. There’s also the fact that you would now be aware of the forces you’re dealing with and also the potential blowback to you if you’re wrongly suspected of colluding or being less smart than you in fact are.

I’m surprised they don’t wait for you to hit the submit button before dropping this on you so people feel invested and motivated to do as they’re told because of the sunk cost in time and effort writing the review.

I think it’s getting about the level of attention as the person who started doing it hoped it would, which is about as much as possible. That attention is definitely going to run the gamut but it’s the internet so plenty of it’s going to be hate. Every time I see it I’m split between knee-jerk “that’s stupid” and then a begrudging sense of affection for someone’s commitment to pointless contrarianism and quirkiness. With the right mental framing it’s at different times annoying and endearing.
