James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Technology@beehaw.org•Meta’s Ray-Ban Display Glasses And The New GlassholesEnglish8·4 天前If these catch on (unlikely imo) it’s only a matter of time before I have an awkward interaction with someone when they come into my house wearing them…
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish1010·4 天前Sorry to have annoyed you.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish2064·4 天前idk I find $2/month to be very reasonable. I don’t feel squeezed.
EDIT: Just to be clear there is no amount of condescending replies form trilby wearing neckbeard keyboard warriors that will change my opinion.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish538·4 天前I know it’s fashionable to shit on Plex here, but OP either has his server misconfigured or is just trying to stir the pot:

Free to Use: Video (movies & TV) streaming of personal content on the same local network as the Plex Media Server
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish93·4 天前Also the weekly intentionally misunderstanding how Plex pass/Plex remote pass works in order to complain:
Free to Use: Video (movies & TV) streaming of personal content on the same local network as the Plex Media Server
Wow, 7tb for $21/month. That’s much better than I’ve been seeing.
Problem with that is there is no backup in case of flood/fire/tornado etc.
Yeah it sucks because Microsoft charges $10/mo for 6tb.
Anyone know of a good managed hosting (or vps) for Immich that doesn’t break the bank? I have about 5TB of photos/videos and I don’t feel safe without a remote backup. I played with self hosting and I really (really) like Immich but I keep Google photos/Drive just to ensure I won’t lose anything.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Risa@startrek.website•Give one of your "skip" episodes a second chance every now and then. You might be surprised.English13·5 天前Skip episodes become brand new episodes after enough time has passed! I recently watched “The Mark of Gideon” and had absolutely NO memory of it. Yay new trek!
Also you’re the second person I saw on here refer to “Take Me Out to the Holosuite” as anything other than great, and while I find that surprising I am glad to hear you’re on board!
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for a relatively cheap camera systemEnglish1·6 天前Hm I like that idea. That’s a bit out of my wheelhouse but worth looking into. Maybe also have two zones? A larger one to trigger the location update?
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for a relatively cheap camera systemEnglish1·7 天前Hmm my phone always takes a few minutes to update that I’m home.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for a relatively cheap camera systemEnglish1·7 天前Ah ok thanks, so just to be clear, when you come home it will still “alert” you to an “intruder” (until your GPS updates presumably).
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for a relatively cheap camera systemEnglish1·8 天前That’s cool, so with the AI chip it can recognize individuals people and pets? Just wondering how you prevent it from alerting you for well, you.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for a relatively cheap camera systemEnglish13·8 天前Last I looked into this Frigate was the most robust path to take, they recommend cameras that are about $50-$100 each but in my playing around I connected a Yi camera ($10) with custom firmware.
That said it was all a bit over my head and I had trouble connecting it to home assistant and gave up
I would love a follow up post with whatever setup you go with!
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Risa@startrek.website•But also, the correct answer is Devil's DueEnglish3·13 天前I tried that and accidentally experienced Bij (it worked and now I love all the series).
But there are dozens of people in this very thread who if I am understanding correctly are willing to offer the same service for free to prove their point that Plex is evil.
