  • The “sudden” realisation of corporations and publications and celebrities that now xitter is bad, but a month ago it was fine, is one of the thinner veils I’ve seen for a while, and there are a lot of thin veils going around.

The truth is, they only care once their income (or other personal interest) is potentially threatened, not a millisecond sooner, and definitely not about the bigotry that’s always been on there, but which has been completely undeniable for a good couple of years now, and which they were happy to turn a blind eye to this long.

If you think these people are allies, you’re giving them waaaaaaay too much credit.

“I tried hanging out with the Nazis, but they’re just too toxic”

    Honestly… 🙄🙄🙄

  • I don’t see why she can’t have a job giving opinions on the cancer risk of eggs or asbestos or whatever.

Because she’ll be well aware of what setting precedent does, and that becoming more strict on other fields and demanding accountability from them risks them becoming more strict on hers, and demanding accountability from her field, too.

The problem with these structures is that they rely on the word of capitalists, whose whole existence and interest is about making profit at any cost, to regulate themselves, so it’s not broken, it’s just had the curtain moved very slightly to reveal the tip of the iceberg of its deliberate inner workings.

  • My jaw literally just dropped reading that.

I knew Lammy, who I used to think very highly of, was slowly shifting to the right when he first backed Starmer for leader, and I’ve seen some other disappointing things from him in the run up to and since the election, but I hadn’t realised just how far gone he is, jfc.

This is what trying to fix an establishment from within looks like - to get in to positions of power, you must assimilate and serve their interests, or get purged.

Shocking enraging, I think is a better fit.

  • Gotta read the articles 👍

    No, you…

As well as looking at the abilities of a single monkey, the study also did a series of calculations based on the current global population of chimpanzees, which is roughly 200,000.

(E: never mind that, as has already been suggested to you, the theoretical thought experiment in question specifies not only infinite monkeys, but infinite time too, so they’ve not stuck to either parameter)
