She could definitely pull of the look…
She could definitely pull of the look…
I think we can all relate to that lol
Not for you, but I bet the 100 or so people about to be out of a job disagree.
The “sudden” realisation of corporations and publications and celebrities that now xitter is bad, but a month ago it was fine, is one of the thinner veils I’ve seen for a while, and there are a lot of thin veils going around.
The truth is, they only care once their income (or other personal interest) is potentially threatened, not a millisecond sooner, and definitely not about the bigotry that’s always been on there, but which has been completely undeniable for a good couple of years now, and which they were happy to turn a blind eye to this long.
If you think these people are allies, you’re giving them waaaaaaay too much credit.
“I tried hanging out with the Nazis, but they’re just too toxic”
Honestly… 🙄🙄🙄
More populist band aids that will only give an illusion of change to distract us from the fact that the system doesn’t serve the people, and never will - it was designed not to.
More elections in a clearly corrupt system will only ever serve the establishment.
I don’t see why she can’t have a job giving opinions on the cancer risk of eggs or asbestos or whatever.
Because she’ll be well aware of what setting precedent does, and that becoming more strict on other fields and demanding accountability from them risks them becoming more strict on hers, and demanding accountability from her field, too.
The problem with these structures is that they rely on the word of capitalists, whose whole existence and interest is about making profit at any cost, to regulate themselves, so it’s not broken, it’s just had the curtain moved very slightly to reveal the tip of the iceberg of its deliberate inner workings.
Obviously if it isn’t thenshe needs to be out of there so fast her feet don’t touch the ground.
She needs to fuck off either way, her word, and the words of the people who hired her are entirely worthless.
There is a significant conflict of interests going on (just being a shareholder alone means she’s prone to making sure the industry continues to do well in the market), and even if we believe that she doesn’t mean to (we shouldn’t, she does), her bias is far too deep for it to not be impacting her decision making.
Sure thing, the lengths some people will go to to defend their cognitive dissonance is ridiculous…
Also, those claiming to have no source on Powell being on the team that negotiated Pinochet’s release, only prove they’ve not only not actually gone looking for one, but haven’t even read op article, where the source is linked:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2001/jan/07/chile.pinochet
And it isn’t the only contemporary source, either:
https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2001/08/chil-a30.html
As well as sources that confirms that Powell promoted deals with Saudi Arabia for a company that also paid £1m to Pinochet:

You can make as many excuses as you want to make yourselves feel better, but it will never magic these people in to being on our side as citizens.
It’s the only look he’s got.
Not going to happen, they aren’t going to risk anything for the sake of the plebs, as long as the money keeps rolling, and we aren’t under direct threat of invasion or other annihilation which we’re unlikely to be (though likely even then…), they will maintain whatever relationships they need to.
My jaw literally just dropped reading that.
I knew Lammy, who I used to think very highly of, was slowly shifting to the right when he first backed Starmer for leader, and I’ve seen some other disappointing things from him in the run up to and since the election, but I hadn’t realised just how far gone he is, jfc.
This is what trying to fix an establishment from within looks like - to get in to positions of power, you must assimilate and serve their interests, or get purged.
Shocking enraging, I think is a better fit.
Looks like they’ve since put it on youtube and it’s also up on dailymotion for now.
If only wearing one actually fostered true anti-war sentiments, eh…
Double checks publication.
No, not the onion.
When people tell you who they are (at the very fucking least cordial with literal fascists), believe them.
Gotta read the articles 👍
No, you…
As well as looking at the abilities of a single monkey, the study also did a series of calculations based on the current global population of chimpanzees, which is roughly 200,000.
(E: never mind that, as has already been suggested to you, the theoretical thought experiment in question specifies not only infinite monkeys, but infinite time too, so they’ve not stuck to either parameter)
Don’t get me wrong, giving money directly to those who need it most is a good start, but in isolation it will not go far to resolve the issue - people need housing, a support network, empathetic and accessible healthcare, some fucking stability and security.
Also - knowing how bad, by design, our benefits and homelessness “support” systems are, how neoliberal our government is, and how much worse they’re already aiming to make them, I am extremely sceptical of this being applied without those it’s supposed to help having to jump through a million impossible hoops, and somehow, some rich person ending up with a multi million pound contract for something or other.
Here’s hoping it provides at least some real relief to a few people while it lasts, but yeah, I’m not pinning much long term hope on this.
