I also tried finding a dumb 4K TV some time ago and, yeah, they don’t exist. 4K TVs were a good tech that came out at the wrong time.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What SF books did you enjoy the most in 2024?
2·1 year agoI can see the angle you’re coming from. I enjoyed Fall of Hyperion but not nearly as much as the first book. As for Dan Simmons himself, I’ve only vaguely heard about his political views. I compare it to Frank Miller’s legacy in that they’re both creatives who have a back catalog of celebrated works that is juxtaposed by their reactionary viewpoints.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What SF books did you enjoy the most in 2024?
7·1 year agoIt was the only one I read but I say it anyways: The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons.
If audiobooks are considered reading then I will include I, Robot, Foundation and Empire, amd Herbert West - Reanimator.

aww@lemmy.world•Love me for my bill, not my deadly neurotoxic venom!English
171·1 year agoSo, I did some very basic reverse image searching with Google Lens and, as others of pointed out, it seems to have originated from Facebook. More specifically, it originates from some kind of copypasta first posted on Sept. 15th of this year by user Hashem Al-Ghaili. This same copypasta later appears in two other places: in Turkish (twice) and again on someone’s Linkedin post. Since many (myself included) suspected this to be AI generated, I ran this through AI image detector sightengine. Now, AI detection tools are very flawed so I took the results with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, It came back with a 99% chance of it being AI generated with Midjourney being the most likely candidate for its creation.

352·1 year agoI really fear for the future of my female loved ones and women in this country in general. Will my older sister who is currently pregnant be subject to this violation of human rights? Will it also happen to my wife when we get around to having kids? Will my younger sister who is only in high school be forced to abandon her educational aspirations because of “societal pressure”? A revolution is in order.

Well, when your DRM software is utter shit that it leads gamers to pirate games you’re not going to have the best reputation.

1801·1 year agoI really hope the GrapheneOS team succeed. Custom ROMs are reason I’m really into tech today. Coding, FOSS, Linux, etc. all that came from rooting my dad’s HTC phone back in the day. Google shouldn’t cannibalize its children.
As much as I to be optimistic, I doubt this will pass. So long as Wall Street is still a thing don’t expect any sort of regulations. Continue to buy second-hand, OEM unlocked phones on eBay.

For those looking for alternatives, there are a number Firefox forks such as Mullvad and Librewolf and then there’s Chromium and it’s various forks (just avoid Edge and, now, sadly, Brave)
