I like having something in the garage. It’s in a place where I only stay when I’m working on something and my hands are super dirty. It can be isolated to a vlan by itself.
But if my hands are covered in oil. I like being able to yell at it to play music and not get one more thing dirty.
I ordered something like shampoo. It opened in the box and got everywhere. Amazon wanted me to return it for a refund. The box was soaked. No way I could have returned it.
Hell, I still have the CD installer. And I think the soundtrack CD.

On her computer, why not just use Thunderbird on it? Or even outlook, or whatever she likes. She just needs to pick the software.
On her phone, or even yours, why the stuff with accessing Thunderbird through vnc. Just add the server to whatever mail app on your phones?
If you want a web based thing, roundcube or sogo. But Thunderbird is gonna suck the way you are trying to use it.
Stupid rspamd default config on my server blocked an email confirming an order from rayban I guess because it was the first time it saw an email from them? Couldn’t even release it, which annoyed me greatly.
And it also put a confirmation from a hotel into quarantine because the resort didn’t have a valid spf record. But at least I could release that one.
I ended up making it much more permissive as a result. But it was super annoying.
If any of my reports told me they booked an appointment through the health care we provided and it was during the work day I’d just say okay, mark it out on your calendar as busy so I don’t bug you or expect anything from you during that time. If they need to account for all their time like some roles, bill it as admin time.
Eh, I need to find time to fit whatever request came in to my schedule.
Fucking tech solutions to a manager problem. The manager should care about the metrics of wait time and client satisfaction.
If waits are low and satisfaction is high. Then who gives fuck all about what techs do in between calls.
Metrics like calls per tech or average length of calls could be used to better understand tech efficiency. Or even rings before pickup. A good pbx can help ensure calls are relatively equally spread between techs. This helps keep one tech from over working for another slacking off. You can have utilization goals so that you aren’t under or over staffed (I’m of the opinion that a techs utilization should be roughly 75-80% and they should have downtime in their shifts to prevent burnout.)
It’s stupid, inhumane, and impossible to expect an employee to track, bill, and work 100% of their shift.
I learned nginx when I was hosting websites. I had it set up and running when it was time to add reverse proxies into my setup. It didn’t take much more from the virtual hosts I was already using.
Now, I don’t host many individual sites anymore and haproxy has a plugin on my firewall for the handful of services I run now.
This isn’t a life hack. Pockets are intentionally sewn shut for the manufacturing and shipping process. You are supposed to open them when you buy them.
Unfortunately, if a politician is trying to undermine that democracy, disenfranchise citizens, and break the checks and balances system, then democracy itself might not be enough to save democracy.

Stop making him out to be a martyr before anything happens to him. By repeating the rhetoric that “he’ll be a martyr” you are preemptively saying that we can’t do anything about it. He needs to have consequences for his actions and not just a refusal to hold him accountable because he’ll “be a martyr.”

You can get an older model Samsung Evo 1tb SSD new for under $100. Those have been good drives for me.
You can probably find something to shuck used if you don’t care too much for reliability.
Regardless, get a second disk even something attached to your main PC to handle backups.
RPi are nice, but imo are getting expensive and if you aren’t using the i/o pins just not worth it. If I were to just start out again I’d pickup a used laptop. Higher specs than a RPi and built in battery backup.
Yup. I run those kind of clusters. But unless your in home datacenter territory, that sort of config isn’t likely to happen in self hosted.
Even physical hardware, if your paying power you can have clusters of physical hardware power up and down based on usage. There is no point in having 10 physical hosts running when the workload for n+1 means 3 servers overnight. With bnc, ipmi, ilo, idrac it will power them up as needed.
They have an app and they do connect up to it. But they can be put on a vlan and null routed to only work locally.
You could have shitty routers. I use unifi access points, make sure I set the channels so I don’t have a lot of interference with any nearby wireless networks, and I should be able to handle a few hundred devices at once. You could also have a small DHCP scope that limits the number of devices on the whole network.
Mine was a hacked Google home mini (physical hack, not software) where I took the speaker out to an aux jack to have it loud enough.
I was in there for hours for all sorts of projects like engine and trans rebuilds.
