As someone who works at AMD not in AI, that’s how they explained it to us. Or I guess it was a bit more generic “highest growth areas” and “still hiring for positions aligned with our strategic priorities.” Which we generally took to mean AI based on the gestures broadly at the market.

If you want to work in AI, they’re hiring. The layoff was sold as a way to make room for more AI headcount.

Marketing isn’t a fan yet. Give it a year, and then we can sell it as efficency.

I think I just misunderstood what you were referencing with the podcast. It just seemed like a general puff piece from before the drama based on the description and what I listened to of the clip.

Mullenweg just took over AFC so that everyone who installed the non-pro version will now have his version instead. It’s part of this whole crazy drama in the WordPress ecosystem right now. It’s just funny to see anyone saying anything else about Mullenweg/ WordPress at the moment.

It’s crazy how different people are. The idea of sitting through a video to do something like this is so painful to me. Like I find it useful for physical things where seeing the motion can be helpful, but I still generally find doing things that way awful. Please, please, please just give me written instructions for things. Especially if I’m going to need to refer back to it a few times (e.g. there are multiple steps that take a bit of time).

Do VPNs make that feature kind of pointless? We can’t access most things from home without going through a VPN. Every where I’ve worked (and gone to school) was like that.

Does your RSVP have options for remote vs in person? My options are “accept”, “decline”, and “tentative.” If I want to tell someone I’m remote that day, it needs to be a separate message.

The equivalent of reading the top answer on Google isn’t installing an HVAC system. It’s turning on the AC. I bet most people who do that don’t know much about how they work. If your landlord got the AC replaced with something “new and better” but it still blew cold when you turned it on, I doubt most people do anything different than what they were already doing unless they experienced bad results.

Because then the hash is the password. Someone could just send the hash instead of trying to find a password that gets the correct hash. You can’t trust the client that much.

You can hash the password on both sides to make it work; though I’m not sure why you’d want to. I’m not sure what attack never having the plain text password on the server would prevent. Maybe some protection for MITM with password reuse?

They might be doing this. The thing is, putting something like that in makes so much more likely you’ll accidentally create an exploit for other actors as well. It’s why security experts are so against backdoors. They fundamentally compromise security.
