She was also part of the team that discovered and coined the term “bug” in relation to a computer defect. She didn’t invent the term herself directly, but she was part of the team that did.
Literally marketing nonsense. The Genesis on paper was less powerful than the SNES in pretty much every aspect except for the CPU clock speed, where the SNES had a 2.68 MHz processor versus the Genesis’ 7.67 MHz, so the Genesis had a superior clock speed but clock speed wasn’t something you could directly compare as they were entirely different processors. Marketing took this speed difference as an advantage though and rolled with it.
macOS has something to this effect where if it detects too many kernel panics in a row on boot it will disable all kernel extensions on the next reboot and it pops up a message explaining this. I’ve had this happen to me when my GPU was slowly dying. It eventually did bite the dust on me, but it did let me get into the system a few times to get what I needed before it was kaput.
The Vulcan credo was IDIC — Infinite Diversity In Infinite Combinations.
Let’s not forget:
Believe it or not, I know the feeling. Took a vacation to Scotland like 10 years ago with the wife-to-be. Didn’t know anything shout the Fringe festival in Edinburgh and ended up there right in the middle of it with our rented car. Got used to driving on the opposite side of the road and car pretty quickly, but I was still remarkably proud of parallel parking in backwards-driving-world surrounded by street performers and tourists and doing it all on the first try. It was beautiful. We were perfectly equidistant from the surrounding cars, exactly 6 inches from the curb, in a manual transmission Jeep Renegade rental we picked up in Glasgow. To this day, it is my greatest parking achievement, without question. Still brings a tear to my eye reminiscing.
The contacts inside are too big and sensitive and it results in phantom inputs. The DIY fix is to open up the controller and literally cover parts of the input contacts with tape.
I also abandoned ship and signed up for Lemmy on June 12. we’re twinses.
We literally have none of those things.
Edit: except perhaps the citizenship certificate but I’ve never seen one before, but yeah they exist. We don’t have ranked voting, and elections aren’t holidays, although your employer must give you paid time off to vote, like 3 hours, and there are exceptions of course, like truckers for some reason don’t get the time off.
Just for the sake of comparison, Alphabet had $308 billion in revenue and $74 billion in profit in 2023 if I’m reading the numbers correctly. But they need cheaper labour.
“I think it would depend on the circumstances.” That doesn’t sound very absolute then, if it depends. “Absolute” means absolute, not “well actually it would depend.” I think they have a particular set of use cases in mind for this “absolute immunity” thing.
Who’s ready to fly on a zipline?
I wouldn’t say quite the same root cause — the xz back door was clearly intentional, but I don’t recall the Heartbleed bug having been intentional, and developer responsible has denied allegations to that effect. There can be no doubt in the xz case of malicious intent.
That’s easy, just create new accounts every time you login.
They don’t have transporters but apparently Jedis can just teleport shit through the Force? Didn’t Rey teleport a lightsaber at some point? Presumably this is a skill that could be picked up by the Empire.
Yeah, anyways that happened. Somehow, Force teleportation.
