  • I’ve patiently waited until the flashing guide for the roborock s8 was out, went to buy the s8 pro ultra, just to discover valetudo has dropped the support, because appearently a different version of the same robot was silently released, that would’ve been turned into a brick if I tried the installation procedure.

Now I have a dumb robot. It does like 95% of what I expect it to do, but I might at least solder an ep32 to the top buttons so that scheduling through the home assistant would be possible

  • No way, I thought the thrill of browsing sketchy appstores to find the other half of the ACR phone was part of the fun.

For those out of the loop - ACR phone is a dialer app that does call recording. It’s distributed through the play store, but without the call recording part, because that would be against the ToS. Once installed, it instructs you to go find the other app that serves as an accessibility module with access to the microphone. And by that I mean ONLY your microphone. The other side of the call is recorded only as an echo of the speaker caught by your own mic.

This might also be the beginning of android.

So far, people have been OK with modifying the existing phones to fit their needs. We’re slowly approaching the critical inconvenience point beyond which it might be easier to buy OEM parts and start assembling un-googled phones.
