If you think 26% is bad, in Russia it’s going to be priced at around ₽80-100k(~$883, VAT included), but the median monthly salary is ₽43.500 - $480… That’s well over 100% median household income given that over 38% families only have a single parent. On gigabyte boards, red ports were/are signifying their “ON/OFF charge” and “3x power” gimmicks. Basically means that it’s a usb 2.0, with 1.5A limit over normal 500mA, and remains powered when the PC is turned off.
The only person I know working in finance couldn’t even afford their own ThinkPad. In fact, they are a bit malnourished as they can’t even afford food some of the time. But they do live in this big, mostly empty house, which I could never afford in my entire lifetime, and towards mortgage for which most of their money goes. As a manager I would’ve just left a number to call to check what’s up, and as visitor this review wouldn’t affect my decision to go there anyway.
I wouldn’t jump on to blame on the customer. In fact, have my own hill I’m fighting right now where I’m not completely in the right. Who knows, maybe the working hours were not visible, or maybe there was no closed sign at all. In any case, this made at least one person mad and is a perfect opportunity for a business to do a retro and check if they might need to do something about it. It’s much more valuable than a thousandth review from someone who had a great time… or didn’t, but didn’t care to review either. And, unless your business is genuinely bad, even a Karen once in a while shouldn’t affect the total score a bit.
I think it’s possible to have both in a federated system. Let the instance the user is on keep the tally of who upvoted what, and let the instance the post is on to know only the tally from other instances. Should be up to instances whether to show this data to users or not. This way it’d be easy to find and defederate single user instances manipulating votes.
But, on the other hand, I don’t see a reason to care about privacy of votes if you can’t even delete a post or comment. Fediverse is, by design, not very private, why bother with just this one aspect of it then.

There’s an OS you might like. It has no UAC, no file permissions, no sudo nor chmod, as it has no multi-user support, no antivirus and no firewall, no protection rings, not even spectre/meltdown mitigations, and most of all - no guard-rails whatsoever: You can patch the kernel directly at runtime and it won’t even give you a warn. And yet, it is perfectly safe to run. It’s called TempleOS and it achieves such a flawless security by having no networking support whatsoever and barely any support for removable media. If you want a piece a software - you just code it in, manually. You don’t have to check the code for backdoors if it’s entirely written by you… only for CIA at your actual back door…

You’ve had a great prof! Mine unfortunately wasn’t as good and just handed me the book and asked how much energy it would take to lift it. Myself, thinking of muscles as linear motors rather than solid structures, said something along the lines of: “Depends on how fast you want me to do it. Just holding it I have to exert something like 10 watts, give or take”, and he went absolutely wild, calling me names and saying that I’m dumb for even asking it, implying that it takes no energy to hold things, hence the plank challenge. Gotta admit, though, that I might have missed the topic of that particular lecture as I wasn’t paying as much attention to it as I was about writing everything down with perfect formatting in LaTeX, hoping to catch up before the exams… Which got me in trouble with another prof who denied me from even taking the exam because she thought I was playing games during her lectures (I was the only student who brought a laptop), and to get to her I had to deal with a yet another prof who thought I was an outlaw biker because she saw me wearing a leather jacket, and tried to humiliate me in front of the board. Still a step up from a different uni that had the audacity to post a price-list for the grades on the door to exam room… One is the top university in my home region and second is mid-tier in the capital, so this is basically the sad state of academia in Russia, and, by certain extent, CIS countries. Speaking of which, do you happen to know any good (and preferably free) online courses on maths and physics? I know about khan academy, but it’s a bit hard for me to chew through, and 3blue1brown who’s been absolutely invaluable in clearing some of the crucial concepts I needed both for work and for learning stuff in general. Even though I’m fairly well off without it, I’d like to someday figure out what’s the deal with quantum computing is, and not just that “a qubit is both 1 and 0 at the same time” which doesn’t seem to make much sense to me.

He was largely a laughing stock, but he did get a few followers, mostly elderly with early onset dementia, but also notably a few of high profile personalities, maybe even a couple of Putin’s advisors.

The dumbest shit I’ve heard throughout my year was at uni, from a physics professor, no less. He, with a straight face, was telling us that highlanders live longer because oxygen content is lower at high altitudes, and since oxygen is an oxidant, it makes people corrode away(??) faster and causes aging.
He was also a Chudinist, which is pseudo-science about searching the words RUS and names of old pagan gods in random, sometimes absolutely ridiculous places, like freshly crumpled A4 sheet or on the surface of the sun, and claiming it to be a sign of existence of greater ancient slavic race.
I once got into an argument with him because he was claiming that lifting an item in hands takes constant amount of energy, no matter how fast you do it. So I challenged him to a 5 minute plank… and he kicked me out from the class. But I didn’t care, as I soon flunked out of that uni because he wasn’t even the most schizo prof over there.

Any half-decent GUI should cover everything shown in this cheatsheet. You’d have to do quite some voodoo witchcraft to need CLI these days. It’s actually the reverse sometimes, when my terminal bretheren complain that I do too much witchcraft when I’m just tidying stuff up with a GUI.
