1·11 days agoOh, I was aware of this, just didn’t know it had made international news. Statue was decided to stay despite the whole thing. And yeah, the sculptors are macho cunts in the vein of Andrew Tate but I wouldn’t have classed them as fascist propagandists. But the shoe fits, tbh, you’re right.

81·12 days agoNah, it’s probably because not everyone cares about the political stuff so if for example you only follow cosplayers or whatever, you never get to see the nazis. At worst you might notice more creeps leaving weird comments but I dunno, I don’t actually use it. Maybe I’m way off.
Yeah, Christmas is claiming Easter is using weather control machines to get rid of winter.

4·22 days agoEven DotA itself was inspired by Aeon of Strife which was a StarCraft map. There were a few AOS-like maps at the time but DotA became the most popular. Then Riot came along and approached an ex DotA designer to help them make a successor. They also approached the owner of dota-allstars.com which at the time was the main site for DotA. Discussions, hero suggestions, fan art, pretty much anything dota related was there. Then, the owner, Fuck Pendragon, took the entire site down and replaced it with a LoL ad. Ofc all those hero suggestions were taken and implemented into LoL without crediting the creators. A few years later he also tried to use blizzard to sue valve for the dota rights but blizz and valve settled it out of court without him.
Hah… yeah, you’re right xD. My bad
Why do you say that? It’s just chez long. At worst it’s like chez long-uh. So it’s really just a different accent more than anything. Also, the word is french not english so…

Coffee@lemmy.world•What drinks can I make with instant coffee while I'm waiting for a replacement water tank for my espresso machine
3·24 days agoWhy wouldn’t it help? Even smaller towns have cafés now where they can buy one so that’s honestly what I’d do as well. And if they have an espresso machine at home it’s almost certain that they’d prefer those to drinking instant coffee.
So yeah, seconding the aeropress. V60 is a bit more tricky to make but also cool, ofc. There’s ofc also the middle ground which is the clever dripper/hario switch.

Made me lol.
A friend used to spend time sneaking + auto walking into a door behind which was an npc. He did that to level up the sneaking skill… Edit: oh, op mentioned his trick as well. Still, point stands.
Meh… these types of tricks are interesting to discover, but boring to use, imo. If you’re gonna play that way imo just use cheats to max whatever skills you want. Less time wasted and more time left to enjoy the game.

Games@lemmy.world•Fun yet unknown gameplay MECHANICS? (POLL)English
4·2 months agoVice city has a cheat code that makes cars fly. Although it’s more like leapfrog because you need to accelerate in order for the game to push you up to fly.
So when I was a kid I used to get the tank and turn the gun around and shoot it and use it as a propeller for infinite flying.

2·2 months agoDunno how accurate this is but it says they sold 46k units. Not quite for nobody, is it? Even if everyone got it at 50% off, that’s still 322k after steam’s cut.

1·2 months agoBut which are these undiscovered gems? Feels like we’re talking hypotheticals because googling hasn’t produced any examples. I feel like it’s also very subjective because it’s quite easy to really like a game and feel like it’s a 10/10 for you even tho for most other people it’s just a 6/10 or maybe worse.
I enjoy stuff like caves of qud or whatever but I understand why it’s not more popular. It’s not for everyone.

3·2 months agoOf course. But the good stuff will rise to the top. Especially in games. When it comes to bands, unfortunately not always the case, that’s true. But that’s a society issue. Universal basic income would help.

2·2 months agoSlop, sure. There’s always people that wanna try making easy money. But I think oversaturation is when there’s too much of the good stuff or when the good stuff doesn’t get seen because of too much slop. Is that the case? Because, again, I’d argue that it’s more about the appeal and the quality of the games than a discoverability/oversaturation issue.
If you like every kind of game out there, sure, you’ll never have enough time for every single one of them. But for those that only like driving games? Or only strategy games? Or only RPGs? I’d argue that there aren’t enough high quality games out there. Way too many times I felt the need to play a specific kind of game only to look and not find anything new or to only find low quality games.

3·2 months agoWhat do you mean hundreds daily? We barely get 1 a month and even that is a stretch. I actually do listen to new metal releases almost every day and I can promise you, most of them are a 6-7/10 at best. I’m not some snob or picky listener either, so it’s not a me problem.
So yeah, music might have a discoverability issue due to sheer number of stuff coming out, but I don’t think gaming is quite there yet.
As for the funding, I agree. But that’s a society issue, not a gaming specific one. There’s starving artists in every art form. If anything, game devs have it easier than most others. I remember watching a video from some game conference by a solo dev that was specialized in making solitaire games (I think? I can’t find the vid anymore, unfortunately). He was basically showing how you can make a living as a dev without ever having a hit or anything of the sort.

Shooter games? Counter strike can be played offline with bots and it’s free. Aimlabs is made specifically to improve aim, also free. Faster paced strategy games like Dota 2 also requires accuracy to click on monsters and enemies and can be played offline with bots and it’s free.
More story-oriented games of course could also work. StarCraft, company of heroes, command and conquer, age of empires, etc. For shooters there’s tons, but many have gore…you can try portal or slime rancher but I was playing doom and Wolfenstein and stuff like that when I was like 10 and whatever as did many of us…but well…not here to give parenting advice, shouldn’t listen to me.
