I love it, but I absolutely have never beat it because I cannot get past the fkin dummy! I have tried three times, three separate times. I gave up and just figure I can acknowledge a game is good, while being absolutely unable to beat it.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English1·25 days agoI have absolutely no idea how you did it! My hands gave out. I mean I was literally hurting. I said no game should be physically hurting me if it’s not DDR and I am not poorly stomping my way through the rhythm =P! So yeah, I stopped playing. That’s when I decided to reach out, because I couldn’t imagine I was the only one with this issue. More power to you if you stuck with it. Get that gold for the both of us =)
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English2·26 days agoI am not sure if you even keep playing games like that but often it’s those ones that end up having to get returned. Which is such a bummer, because it so easily could be solved. Most times when you reach out to the company though (or devs, which ever) unless it’s a really small team they will typically ignore your requests. Any time I have had accessibility requests, without hesitation smaller teams have implemented them almost immediately. Likewise they’ve asked if there is anything else that I might need. I know we’re getting better at accommodating people, but there are still people who believe you can just “get gud” and work through these problems. When in actuality, they game-ending experiences. Which really sucks. Thanks for sharing by the by =)
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English1·26 days agoI sadly have little interest in watching things about Hades as because I am so burnt out from asking for accessibility assistance (I actually think I did it multiple times in case they didn’t catch it) and I am just frustrated with them as a whole and this post reignited it. But I am glad that they got what they wanted because Greek mythology is expansive. I think someone else will be happy about it. I just think I realized I feel relatively “done” with the company as a whole =/!
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English2·27 days agoMy partner has a rare type of colorblindness that makes certain comfy games completely unplayable. I wanna scream at the screen, because I wish that it were easier in this life to make things more accessible for all people in general. I sit in the same camp with you, the more the merrier when it comes to support. I get sad when I open a game, and I see nothing (cause the first thing I do is always check the options). I tend to not buy games with certain things like flashy effects, qtes, or a need for fast reflects. As you can tell, I’m not PVE-er =P!
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English3·27 days agoTo be honest, I get what you’re saying here although I’ve played all their games. I think of the bunch I disliked Bastion the most. It felt like an empty PSX game. I liked Transistor, but the catch is that it needed to be played pretty much surrounding their pause-the-battle technique which was okay but it really kind of sucks to me whenever I have any game use this technique. I would have much rather it had been a full turn-based game. I like turn-based games though. There is some viking game that plays like a janky-table top where it’s semi-turnbased and it was absolutely awful for it.
Mind you, I like Transistor due to its story. Which I think is the same reason why I liked Pyre. The setting, it was quite nice and if I could remove the mini-games from the game I would. Hades, I liked because they took characters the size of tic-tacs and turned them into three-dimensional beings. That was quite nice. They played on a lot of anime tropes. The gameplay was good, but it was a bit too challenging for me. I dropped it relatively early due to this. I pretty much sit in the same camp now. I wondered if maybe I had aged out of their target audience but I will probably never play one of their games again. It’s just not my bag.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English1·27 days agoTo be honest, I felt like Hades was like GOOFILY sexual. But I get why it works for most people. I just was like…wut!? People are horny for Hades folks, including my sibby. So like, it works. I just don’t play games for that kind of stuff is all. I also liked their art more when it was air-brushy over the hard comic lines. Which is kind of crazy, because I like comic book art. It’s just like…too much for me. My sibby grabbed Hades 2 and I can’t bring myself to play it.
Also they’re assholes of accessibility. It’s so hard to play Hades because outside of the gauntlets you’ve gotta mash buttons to get through the whole damn thing. I know I am not the only one who’s written to them about this, but they never gave a shit about it. I figured I was pretty much done with them because I have had such positive responses from so many indie developers on accessibility options. Which I think to be absolutely honest, should be a standard for games with larger budgets. Which they for sure had, as far as indie games go. eh.
That was a rant and a half.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•Had a take about Supergiant Games that recieved a lot of pushback fromy two longest running best friends.English71·27 days agoTo be honest, I think they only made a sequel to Hades because it was so popular. I actually quite like that they create new universes every game. I also like the core gameplay of Pyre (not so much the mini-games) unlike most people. It sort of feels like Ballmasterz turned into a super cereal game to me. It probably inspired the show, which ever came first.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•When making lots of small games is more sustainable than making one big oneEnglish3·28 days agoI’ve never had that problem myself either. I took a break there for quite some time with my gaming but I did grow up with it, and I have returned to it. I can’t think of a time when I have played a game - even a story based one, and liked it and haven’t returned to it at least once more. I think I’ve noticed though, I am kind of a gaming minority. I think the funniest thing I can say about games is that back when I played with a big rowdy group of guys a game would last however long it lasted because the guys would fight and swap for whoever was controlling the character and we’d play that shit into the ground regardless of how long a game was. The last system I had was a PS2, so idk but I knew a lot of complaints started coming out PS3 era. Snap even was a game that we played like crazy. I had a friend who had a N64, and Pokemon was so hot! And we’d all just sit there and see if we could do “perfect” runs even though it was pretty much the same game over and over again.
Speaking of trends, I mean I guess these things have always existed but I think the PS3 began the genre my girlfriend lovingly describes as “penis games” which have hyper-masculine protagonist smashing the shit out of everything with dynamic lighting. I don’t mean to offend anyone with this, but the trend is still here (I am just guessing it’s Unreal graphics). I know it existed before the PS3, but it really took off then and was part of what actually turned me off of gaming as a whole.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@sh.itjust.works•Why are modern games obsessed with parrying? | Semi-RamblomaticEnglish2·28 days agoThank god! I know a lot of gamers still hug their consoles, but I haven’t had one since ninety dickety two, and I figured at least I could watch the pretty game if I couldn’t play it. Because I am not about to grab a console for one game =P!
Thank you by the by! It was super sweet to pass this along =)
***Oooo, looks like Nausicaa-ZoE!
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•When making lots of small games is more sustainable than making one big oneEnglish4·28 days agoIt’s quite funny that Strange Scaffolding seems to embrace uncertainty with er…uncertainty. As in, they keep things explicitly contract based in order to keep people from expending too much time and energy into a singular project. I’ve always thought of contract work as something rockier due to taxes, benefits, etc. I think though, they’re just ahead of the curb and if they’re successful enough more power to them. Clearly something is a bit amiss though, if the head of the place can’t afford a ticket to GDC. I do like however, that they showed up to socialize regardless. Which is pretty much the main reason to show up to one of these anyways.
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@lemmy.world•When making lots of small games is more sustainable than making one big oneEnglish5·28 days agoI also remember when people would constantly say that games were too short. I didn’t play them at the time, but there was a period when everyone was complaining about waiting for a long time for games - paying a lot for a game, and then finishing it in 5-7 hours and never playing it again.
I wonder if that’s the reason why it found its way into our library. We didn’t have a large budget, and mostly everything was quite old. They started carrying cds, but because I lived in a predominantly black area they were almost never checked out because most black folk at the time wouldn’t be caught dead listening to rock in any capacity at the time. (*They couldn’t have explicit music in the library) I mean honestly, I knew one guy and that was about it. In fact I got my first rock cd ever because someone “hid their shame” of buying a Weezer album and leaving it in an unlocked gym locker because it was something seen as sort of shameful back then. Even when I was a young adult it wasn’t really done, and I dated a black alt-punk and I remember her lamenting how white the scene was. Ten years after that though, I saw black kids listening to metal and I figured “we’ve arrived” =P! Dividing music by ethnicity is dumb af.
I can’t remember if I read they split here or on the video but I was astonished their run was so small. Still I think they’re very talented, make great music and love that song to death. I think I should give their entire discography a respectful listen =)! Thanks for the share!
poppichew@piefed.socialto Games@sh.itjust.works•Why are modern games obsessed with parrying? | Semi-RamblomaticEnglish2·28 days agoGet out! I was thinking lately that I wish they would (re)release all of their games again so I can finally play the damn game with the bird-dog. A long time ago, a friend showed me a trailer for that game before it came out. I missed it, and maybe with them releasing a new game they might consider putting the old ones up for funding? I don’t care how awful the controls or the ai is, their games blow my mind, just like you said =)! Thanks for the heads up! I wonder if it’ll end up being an Playstation exclusive, or if they’ll open the channels up a bit more?
poppichew@piefed.socialto 90s Music@lemmy.world•The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job? [1999]English3·29 days agoI figured a song either vibes with you or not. Tons of folks have loved a ton of songs that I have tried to get with and felt absolutely nothing from. I think this is one of them. I love The Cranberries, but I hate Linger. It makes me want to pull the hair from my head. I think this is my Offspring Linger. I think this song was from Americana right? Yeah, I listened to that cd like craziness when I was younger. As a professional fidgetter though, truth be told - the later you got on a cd the more likely I’d end up passing you by unless I found the album an absolute banger. I mantra-d the dick bits of She’s Got Issues into my ears on repeat to the point that I can sing it forwards and backwards and it was probably just my very gay self trying to escape my body at the time because I loved singing about gals and that’s the same damn reason why I can sing Teenage Dirtbag even without having heard it in probably twenty years as well.
I hear what you’re saying. I do like weird/experimental/campy jams too! I think my favorite fuck around song is Panda, Panda, Panda which I always end up playing if I get new audio-playing things of some kind (speakers/headphones etc.) I just really think there’s a disconnect between me and the jam is all.
P.S. - It’s why I can’t listen to that one band the Blackhawks play cause I liked them plenty fine before but after a while their jams just became cringy to me because I associate it with assholes >.>!
poppichew@piefed.socialto 90s Music@lemmy.world•The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job? [1999]English4·29 days agoHahaha, I knew I’d get it for going against the Spring, but I really do love the band. When I was younger and I was introduced to Alternative they were one of the first bands I ever heard and I really fell in love. I had only a couple of their albums, but I really loved them and damned if I didn’t live by them for a while (Ixnay and Americana). I like the funky little instrumentals for Original Gangsta by the by. I just didn’t get the song, same kind of thing for like…Weezer’s Beverly Hills. I mean it’s for sure California rock but like…what? Just isn’t my cup of tea I guess, but also like…I am a sadist and I don’t like The Office (it actually hurts me to watch). So like maybe it’s just like not in me to be down with this kind of stuff. Idk.
I actually totally know what you mean here! For my friend group it was blasting this cause we don’t like no bum ass bitches. At least, it was kind of the sentiment while jamming out to Get a Job. Different genres though, so it might sound like screeching cats to your ears just a heads up.
poppichew@piefed.socialto 90s Music@lemmy.world•The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job? [1999]English8·29 days agoI’m a goob, and I really actually love The Offspring. This song though, has always been too er…campy to me? Just never really liked it. Which is kind of funny, considering how much I like I Choose. I think this song has calypso drum which is cool but there’s jut something about it that annoys the shidiggle outta me, same way Original Gangsta does. Eh.
Me too, actually. Hehehehe! To be honest with you, I think my favorite state in the Midwest is WI, gotta love those lakes in Madison. I swore to myself at a young age that I wouldn’t “backtrack” which means I want to keep living in new states cause life is short and it’s important to get in all you want to get in before you get too old or tied down to do so. Only state I am willing to revist is Eastern PA, cause I lived on the other side and it’s practically two states put into one. One of my close friends lives in MI, but we met in IL she’s in the Kalamazoo area. Some bent part of me wants to go to the UP, but I think it’d be an easier sell not to look towards the SE side. Especially cause there’s puffins, and who doesn’t love to see little puffins hanging out? I will say Detroit last time I went through had some of the saddest architecture I’ve seen in my life (I’m sure you know where I’m talking about). Looked firebombed. I think it’s flipping though, and I know there’s a bustling art scene. I think my favorite thing about the Midwest as a whole is how kind folks are. It’s not always there, but when it is it’s real genuine. It’s actually that genuine spirit I like about the East too, although it’s not the same scene obviously. I just like that organic energy, people acting as they think/want. Of course I tend to stay away from the water cracker folks out East, so that might be different with that old money kind.
A friend of mine who is from MI (but not the gal I am talking about) lamented the winters there. Said the snow never seems to end, the wind is brutal and it rolls off the lake with a fierce misery (because it’s to the East, you know). He also hated the basements, most of which are unfinished and dungeonous. Hehehe!
Either way, I hope you’re air quality is doing okay. I am not sure what exactly is going on, but these wildfires have been killer for the air. Thanks for responding back by the by =)
Nice, feel good music. Is that a trope? Cause if it’s so, it’s one I dig.
Labi Siffre - Bless the Telephone
Warwick & Crew - That’s What Friends are For
Kimya Dawson - You Love Me (It’s a soft sweet.)
Ella Fitzgerald - Get Ready
I also like despondent music, which I guess is the other side of the coin.
Nina Simone - You’d be So Nice to Come Home To (Sounds like a funeral march)
Mitski - Nobody
Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had a Heart
Liam Finn & Eliza Jane - On Your Side
#1 thing is can you sing it though. Idk if any of this is right.
