That’s probably a good thing. Why on earth should a pdf file be able to do something like this? Just seems like another potential attack surface.

And? That cost is constant. It shouldn’t cause fluctuations in price.
It’s not how all businesses work. Many businesses lower prices when there is a surplus. Consider filling up at the gas station for example.
It’s ridiculous that energy prices would go up when they are spending less on natural gas, coal, or whatever they are using to create the power.
Honestly crap like this is just going to encourage those that can afford it to install solar panels and backup batteries to load up on cheap electricity. Then the power company is really going to throw a hissy.
I’d rather drop some of the more modern features like WebGL, WASM, and AI. A lot of this crap needs to be plugins instead of built into the browser.

I wonder what the data entailed other than school name, student name, and grades?
EDIT: Found answer. It included social security numbers.
Facebook/meta should never have been allowed to buy Instagram.
Microsoft recently announced a handheld for Xbox. They’re going to half ass this they way they did with windows phone.
Important story, but not really “oniony”. This is the new normal unless you’ve been living under a rock.
Studios shouldn’t own channels (streaming or broadcast).
SLAMMED!
It’s already come multiple times. But people don’t seem to learn. We had Trump 1.0.-Covid-Brexit. Now we have Trump 2.0-BirdFlu-Elon Boogaloo.
If it was saving you 10% battery life per year, it might be worth it. The other link indicated real world testing was less than 5%.
“I have four percent more battery at 28 more cycles, and I’m not sure suffering through an 80 percent battery limit for 12 months was ultimately worth it.”
Will be interesting to see if they follow up with additional years of testing. Might be different on Android than it is on iPhone.
At least on iPhone, charging to 80% has shown not to make much of a difference in the long run.

This article explains that you are losing 20% of your battery daily by not charging it fully, only to maybe save 5% in long term battery life. (Scroll down to “should you” section.)

Has there been any proof that charging your phone to only 80% does anything beneficial?
Don’t care what anyone else says — she was great on Enterprise.
I would hope it means the person who argued against an opt in for this feature got fired. Because you know that employee isn’t worth $95 million a year salary. And probably more than one person spoke up in meetings explaining why this wasn’t a good idea.
Expanse books are great. I’m still pissed Amazon hasn’t made the final books into series seasons.
Sadly, I wasn’t impressed with the current SA Corey novel that starts a new non-Expanse series. It was extremely dull.
Heads up — Murderbot series can be fun, but I’d say it’s more “robocop” than hard sci fi.
