4·6 days agoI see what you’re saying. That makes sense. It’s an overloaded term.
In economic terms, a price drop would result in an “increase in demand”. Because current demand is the amount request “at current price”.
And that’s why it’s always talked about in relation to demand curves. Or how much demand there is at many theoretical.prices.

12·7 days agoAs the cost of producing software collapses, demand for it will expand.
This part actually makes sense. Plenty of software doesn’t get written because it’s just easier or cheaper to do without it. It’s why BPM tools exist. Simplify the coding process and you can solve problems more cheaply.
I also think this will kill BPM tools. Why use BPM tooling when creating a real app is just as easy and more customizable?

7·12 days agoI love the concept of port knocking, but it seems like a lot of overhead if the client apps themselves don’t support it.
Now if the SSH client could take a parameter called knock_on_this port, that would be awesome.

You run a dynamic DNS script. It reaches out to the DNS server (provided by whoever registers your domain name) every five minutes and says “my IP is x.x.x.x”.
The problem is that it takes a few minutes to update when it changes. That might not fit your use case.

3·23 days agoThat’s right. You’d port forward on the router TO the firewall WAN side. Then port forward on the firewall to the server.

Facebook marketplace has real cheap old kit. Good enough to start with. Also look at free cycle and your local thrift store. You never know when you’ll find something workable.
