I wouldn’t say that there’s a major religious theme. It’s just that Bob doesn’t interact with that many characters except himself, so those interactions felt more important to the plot. Then again, I wouldn’t say that the Brazilian navy AI was a very multifaceted character either.
!Didn’t make it clear, but I was mainly referring to the storyline on the inhabited planet. I got annoyed by the main character essentially slaughtering natives and then at some point admitting to himself that he knew nothing about them as a species. Towards the end of that plot line there was some negotiation with the cult leader back on earth, at which point I was quite fed up.!<
There were a lot of fun aspects too though, like bob discovering stuff and making gadgets.
Enjoyed project hail mary, but bobiverse didn’t quite do it for me. >!Atheist gets recruited by religious cult. Proceeds to go to planet of the apes to play god. I found it to be mostly ok up to that point though. !<
Religion as portrayed in this book makes the characters very one dimensional. It’s also peppered with references to popular culture, which doesn’t really do that much for me.
First book by him for me, so can’t comment on his overall style. The main plot didn’t resolve in this one, it leaves it to a sequel. There’s definitely a tendency to introduce technology from ancient races in the plots which may be used in that way. Didn’t feel jarring to me in this book though.
Does shiny mean it’s gold-plated? :-)
The Intrl B580 also has a bit more driver overhead than AMD/NVidia, and might not be the best choice for older CPUs
Just finished Exodus: The Archimedes Engine on audible. Space opera with a lot of world building. A bit slow to get started, but I really enjoyed it.
Edit: not sure if I would classify it as engineering porn though, although there is an emphasis on use of technology
And then Huawei allegedly stole Cisco’s IP? Ah, the irony
There’s a small pouch containing a mini deck
One possible culprit is CPU-GPU memory transfers. Have you tried encoding without burning in the subtitles? Maybe the burn-in requires a CPU transfer after decoding and then back again to encode
That’s why the media should be held accountable for what they say. Which I suppose would be the case if it wasn’t for the loophole of disguising news as entertainment.
Hah, that’s an interesting tidbit
The file/document integration is based on SharePoint. Shit built on top of a nice pile of manure
Edit: and don’t get me started on the teams android app which requires access to all your media if you try to share a single image. If you share it as a file attachment however it’s completely fine. No you’re not getting access to my files and pictures MS, keep your filthy adware fingers off my data
Probably no ads on your self-hosted frigate/jellyfin pages though, so you can just keep using chrome for that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is it possible to disable this organization-wide for the handful of windows devices we have? Or do we have to subscribe to some kind of device management service from MSFT? We currently use standard o365 subscriptions
Cool, that’s great news for Apple users
Apple produces hardware for their walled garden, whereas Google imposes their terms on third parties. I can’t speak to how this works legally, but thats the main difference as far as I understand.
I just lean on tab and let copilot fill the screen with garbage
Maybe fix the Irish tax loophole first?
