Pretty much this. Don’t own other beings as property. Don’t instigate violence against peaceful beings. Do not attempt to restrict the freedom of other beings. It really is that simple.
slrpnk.net already has its own XMPP chat option where one’s Lemmy username (e.g. user@slrpnk.net) is one’s XMPP address, and I imagine that other instances could do something similar if they wanted. XMPP is federated, so it doesn’t require any Lemmy-side coding for the federation aspect. For instance-wide chat (visible to all users of the instance), an implementation in XMPP would probably be easier as well, perhaps using some form of the group chat functionality. What does your proposal offer that cannot be done using XMPP?
According to Freep, police said the man was in stable condition after going to the hospital.
But is the cockroach okay?
Deforestation is part of it. With continued climate change, such drought or flood events will only get more and more frequent outside of the equatorial region, with the most severe adverse weather events expected between 30°N and 60°N. The ocean will buffer the UK a bit from temperature extremes, but the inherent seasonality of the climate will still result in large variations in both temperature and precipitation. The temperature of the Atlantic Ocean is a major influence as well.
Though I hear Mullvad has its own Firefox fork now
Mullvad Browser? It’s basically Tor Browser without the Tor, meant to be used with a VPN instead. It has integration with Mullvad VPN by default, but that add-on can be removed, and the browser doesn’t need Mullvad VPN in order to function. Since the browser is based on Firefox, someone might want to fund Firefox development by using it with Mozilla VPN instead.

Well thank heavens that at least no one was hurt.

If Iceland can grow bananas, then oil palms don’t seem like much of a stretch. But whether they are grown outdoors in the lowland tropics or in a greenhouse somewhere else, that’s land that cannot be native forest. At least in the tropics, it’s possible to implement an agroforestry system that includes both oil palms and native trees, but in a greenhouse somewhere cold… nope. Even if the yield would be greater than that of more cold-tolerant oil crops, more energy would be needed for heating in the winter, so intuitively, it doesn’t seem practical except where there would be large amounts of “waste” heat anyway, like near geothermal vents or power plants.
Fortunately, palm oil is not essential for nutrition, and many industrial applications could use (e.g.) hemp oil if palm oil is not available, so it’s not necessary to increase production of palm oil. About half of world production goes to “livestock” feed anyway.
Convert the pasture lands to syntropic food forests and native forests, and then the birds and other native animals will have a place to live again.
All systems of oppression must be dismantled, no matter how inconvenient or unpleasant that process may be.
For those finding this post for the first time, OP is now an admin of https://lemmy.vg/ which is a Lemmy instance run by vegans for vegans.
Thank you for taking the time!
Let us also not forget the importance of syntropic agriculture practices for sustainability. Tree-based food production is the most effective way to maintain (and even improve) fertility, biodiversity, and habitat for free-roaming animals.

I agree. Peaceful cohabitation without domination can work quite well. I don’t even know how many animals share this house, but it’s probably hundreds at least. If they don’t bother me, I don’t bother them. It’s only when the cohabitation is involuntary/non-consensual or when someone tries to control others by force or coercion that it becomes a problem.
