I think it has more to do with how not taking violent threats seriously enough has led to escalation into real world violence.
Say cunt and whatever but this is a pretty tone deaf post in a world where the Myanmar Genocide, enabled significantly by Facebook’s lax moderation practices, is ongoing.
In case Im not the only one who’s heard of this for the first time:

This website is already facing these kinds of issues.
There is a super mod on lemmy.world (jordanlund) who is blatantly manipulating posts with moderation and banning people who call him out.
The dude threatened me directly for calling him on it.
Generally when you make these kind of accusations, its polite to provide some evidence of your claims. There is a pretty large gray area that exists when moderating subs like worldnews and politics, so such communities are almost constantly beset with accusations of some type of bias.
Modlogs exist, if he has clearly been manipulating posts then it shouldn’t be hard to find the evidence.
I’ve already had this conversation yesterday and provided links. Check my comment history and the mod log, why rely on a biased source provided by me when you can just verify the truth for yourself?
Looks like you had a pointless, circular argument with another user 5 days ago and he nuked the thread because it was going nowhere. I’m okay with that. Then when you brought it up today, a different mod removed some of those comments.
When you say he’s manipulating posts, it implies he has some kind of agenda. If his agenda is to remove unproductive and hostile discussion from the sub, then I support his agenda. You implied it’s some kind of political bias, but I don’t see any evidence of that.
I think he probably just wants you to be more polite in your tone.

Get shitty? I told them not to trust the narrative I’m painting and to self verify against my claims. I also told them the specific locations of where my sourced arguments could be found and rewrote most of it below in a different comment.

They banned porn, and for that they have my undying enmity
I think that says more about you than about them
I’d say the fact that they banned porn says about as much about tumblr as having the above poster’s enmity says about them, so I’d go with an even 50/50 on this one.

they banned porn because they were bought out by the owners of wordpress, and the kerfuffle with credit card companies suddenly refusing payments on pornhub had just happened. the stated reason was so they don’t step in some unseen controversy and get blackballed by mastercard, which is a bit prudish if you ask me.
The main problem with porn is moderating it. Especially having to watch something to determine whether or not it’s csam. It’s easier to just ban porn. It’s a big hassle whenever your site isn’t supposed to be a porn site.
and therein lies the crux of the issue. lots of folks who were around before the porn ban would argue that the smut was integral to tumblr’s identity; that the tumblr we have today is just a shadow of what it once was.

Well I know about writing a thread and the UI for that is horrible too, but doesn’t it look different than this? Also his profile looks completely different between the two posts.
